Sally Young

​Sally Young, CPDT-KA, has worked professionally with dogs for over 15 years. Through positive reinforcement, patience and a good sense of humor, Sally enjoys helping owners and their dogs learn, bond and succeed.  She loves teaching all classes but her favorite classes with Life’s Ruff at Springbank Pet Resort are the puppy and agility classes. Sally passed her CPDT-KA exam in 2011, and is a member of both the Canadian Association of Professional Pet Dog Trainers and the American Association of Pet Dog Trainers.  Sally is a former foster home who specialized in working with abandoned, abused and neglected puppies.

Sheila French

Sheila French has had a life-long passion for animals having owned, trained and worked with a variety of rescue and pure bred dogs.  Sheila was a volunteer training assistant with Cochrane and Area Humane Society for quite a few years.  This is where her interest in dog training began.  She has mentored under Sally Young as well as other trainers in the Calgary and Cochrane. 
​She is currently working towards her training hours to obtain her CPDT certification.  Sheila truly enjoys watching owners transform their dogs into well-trained, well-mannered member of their families and this is why she finds teaching classes so rewarding. Sheila is the primary instructor for the Beginner, Novice and Real Life classes.

Obedience training whether for fun or competition or behavior modification will build a strong bond between you and your dog; and make the following years of your relationship full of pleasure and joy. Our goal is to build on the relationship you have with your dog, whether they are a new member to the family or have been with you for years.

Puppy Kindergarten

$180.00 - Six Week Course
Puppy classes are designed for dogs under six months. Our goal is to provide a fun, friendly environment for your puppy where we stress interaction between other puppies and instruction in all of the basic obedience commands.
We run our puppy classes on an six week schedule with each class lasting one hour, please inquire for the current schedule. Our classes are normally full two weeks prior to start. Please call or email for current availability.

One of the most important aspects in puppy obedience is to provide your puppy with socialization skills. This allows your puppy to interact with other dogs of different breeds and sizes in order to learn to communicate with one another. This also helps curb aggression towards other dogs and humans.

This is a consecutive course. 

Beginner

$180.00  - Six Week Course - Usually held Wednesday nights
Who says you can't teach an old dog new tricks! Our Beginner Classes are designed for dogs age six months and up. No dog is too old. We will teach you all of the necessary obedience commands in order to have a happy and long lasting relationship with your dog. Beginner Classes run on an six week schedule with each class running for one hour, please see our calendar for the current schedule. Our classes are normally full two weeks prior to start. Please call or email for current availability.

Whether this is a new member to the family or has been a part of you life for many years, training can help alleviate unwanted behaviors. Families are welcome to attend and partake in all training.  
We require a minimum class size of 3 dogs.

Novice

$180.00  - Six Week Course - Usually held Wednesday nights
This class is designed for those people who have learned the basic obedience skills. You will learn new, more advanced skills while perfecting the old ones. Our novice class is challenging yet fun for you and your dog. Novice Classes run on an six week schedule with each class running for one hour, please see our calendar for the current schedule. Our classes are normally full two weeks prior to start. Please call or email for current availability.

These classes are designed for those dog's (and owners) that already have some obedience training. You will learn new skills and polish old ones. 
We require a minimum class size of 3 dogs.

Agility

$180.00
Does you dog always want to jump that log or crawl under that tree! Agility is the playground for dogs,  with teeters, tunnels, bridges and more! This is for dogs 12 months and older. If your dog is over 8 yrs old it is a good idea to check with you vet first. We require a minimum class size of 3 dogs.

Real Life

$120.00
Already done the basics? In this class we will be working with dogs 6 months and older in one of our large fenced in areas, focusing on loose leash walking and recall using real life situations. Bring a favorite toy, a pocket of good treats and some good shoes and you are ready to go. (If weather is bad class will be moved indoors).

More advanced obedience work with socialization, on going registration booked in 4 week blocks (Must have taken a previous class with Out West Dog Training) 
We require a minimum class size of 3 dogs.
Jenna Strachan, our Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT) is currently accepting clients for the following services:

Puppy Socialization (Ages 8-16 weeks)

Tuesdays & Fridays
Small Breed Group 4:00PM
Large Breed Group at 5:00PM
Cost: Free!

Our 30-minute group sessions will help promote positive exposure to other puppies in an appropriate and controlled social environment. At this stage of development, it is crucial that we expose our puppies to group play in a positive setting so that we can prevent fear, anxiety, and reactivity in the future.

Insightful puppy developmental information will be delivered to clients throughout the class as our goal is to create open discussions.
Note: We are following all AHS COVID-19 guidelines very closely, this is currently a drop off and pick up program

Puppy Daycare (Ages 17-24 weeks)

Wednesdays & Thursdays 11:00am –2:00pm
Cost: $20 per session

Graduate your puppy from our Puppy Socialization program to these three-hour daycare sessions where Jenna continues to encourage positive socialization and appropriate group play.
Note: Pick up and drop off times are available throughout the day. Please contact us for more information.

Private "One on One" Training Sessions (Ages 6 months and up)

Mondays & Fridays Various Times
Cost: $50 per session (1 hour each)

These private, one hour training sessions include various exposure and behavior assessments, discussion of owner lifestyle and the creation of a customized training program for you and your best buddy.
Each program listed above includes opportunities for you to address your specific questions or concerns about your puppy.
We hope that by offering these new and exciting programs we will encourage positive canine development and create a long-lasting bond and foundation that both you and your canine companions can thrive on at any stage in their lives.
